The company was founded in 1983. The company is headquartered in Tettnang near Lake Constance in southern Germany on the border of Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Over the course of development over the past 25 years it has become a synonym for specialist for optical sensors for automation in industry. From a couple of employees at the beginning, the nimber increased to over 500 employees in the year 2007. The annual turnover in 2007 amounted € 50 million.
In addition to constant concern for quality, the company is constantly developing new products and looking for solutions to problems in automation. Since the beginning of the development, the company has presented a couple of global innovations in the field of optical sensors, which were only later taken over by other sensor manufacturers.
The company was the first in the world to introduce electronic background extraction in sensors, the first sensors for transport routes, the first gloss sensors and position markers with white light, a color sensor with white light, sensors with background elimination in M8 housing and the first sensors for image processing in sensor housing with built-in autofocus.
In 2007, a new logistics and education center was built in the new Wenglor Street.
Today, the company has offices and representations in virtually every country in the world.
